The floor mounted jib crane is an essential piece of lifting equipment to have in a production environment. They make it possible for you to lift heavy loads that would have been impossible to lift any other way. As a result, they help increase effectiveness and efficiency in factories by saving time, effort, and money.
Asides increasing worker productivity in factories, jib cranes help reduce workplace injuries and enhance safety. The floor mounted jib crane is one such type of jib crane that contributes enormously to ease the work and capacity of the production environment.
The floor mounted jib crane is considered the most versatile and economical solution for handling materials within a workstation. This type of jib crane can be installed anywhere, whether indoors or outdoors. Hence, they can be placed in open areas where they can serve many workstations, underneath large bridge cranes, or used outdoors at loading docks or marinas. Indoors, they can be applied to operations such as machining and assembly, where they can be used alongside other jib cranes to provide staged operation.
Features of A Floor Mounted Jib Crane
The following are some of the features of a floor mounted jib crane:
- They support 360° rotation
- Floor mounted jib cranes span up to 50’ and possess up to 40’ height under boom
- Floor mounted jib cranes have capacities up to 15 tons
Floor Mounted Jib Designs
The floor mounted jib crane is mounted and installed in different ways. These include:
- Base Plate Mounted: This type of design uses a hexagonal base plate which is bolstered by six knee braces that are equally spaced on the edge of the mast to help hold it in place. The mast is then reinforced using gussets.
- Foundation Mounted: This floor mounted jib crane design makes use of a square steel plate that is joined to the bottom of the column. The plate helps to position and level the mast by fastening it to a first-pour concrete footing. A second-pour foundation of reinforced concrete is then used to strengthen the mast. This eliminates the need for gussets.
- Sleeve Insert Mounted: This design uses a square steel plate which is joined to the bottom of the sleeve. The plate puts the sleeve in place and levels it by fastening the sleeve to a first-pour concrete footing. A second-pour foundation of reinforced concrete is then used to support the sleeve. Once that’s done, the mast is placed and leveled into the sleeve by wedges, after which it is welded in place. This makes it possible to relocate the jib system when necessary without destroying the mast.
In many ways, the floor mounted jib crane helps to enhance material handling efficiency as well as workflow.
